The YBT project launches DISCOVER, a multilingual awareness platform designed to help schools, families, and communities better understand giftedness, challenge stereotypes, and promote more inclusive educational environments.
Giftedness is often misunderstood. Many gifted students are labelled as “too sensitive,” “distracted,” “difficult,” or simply overlooked because their abilities do not fit traditional expectations. At the same time, teachers and families frequently struggle to access reliable, practical, and accessible information about what giftedness really means.
To respond to this challenge, the YBT project, co-financed by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Commission and implemented by partners from Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, and Cyprus, proudly introduces DISCOVER: a digital awareness and sensitisation platform created to make gifted education more visible, understandable, and inclusive for everyone.
DISCOVER is not aimed only at specialists. It is designed for the wider educational ecosystem—teachers, parents, school leaders, students, and community stakeholders—offering an accessible entry point into the world of giftedness and high abilities.
The platform brings together a wide range of awareness-oriented resources, including:
- Articles and informative content on giftedness and twice-exceptionality
- Practical insights into emotional, cognitive, and social characteristics of gifted learners
- Materials to challenge myths and stereotypes surrounding high ability
- Guidance for families and schools navigating identification and support pathways
- Multimedia resources designed for broad educational outreach and reflection
DISCOVER was developed with one clear goal in mind: making giftedness easier to recognize, discuss, and support in everyday educational contexts.
Research conducted during WP2 of the YBT project revealed a recurring issue across partner countries: giftedness remains surrounded by misconceptions. Many educators associate giftedness only with academic excellence, while emotional vulnerability, asynchronous development, creativity, or underachievement often go unnoticed.
As a result:
- Gifted students may remain unidentified for years
- Twice-exceptional learners are frequently misunderstood
- Families feel isolated and unsupported
- Schools lack a shared culture around gifted education
DISCOVER seeks to bridge this awareness gap by translating research and expertise into approachable, multilingual, and easy-to-navigate content that can support reflection and dialogue at all levels of education.
Unlike diagnostic tools or formal training programmes, DISCOVER focuses on culture-building. The platform encourages schools and communities to move beyond labels and begin seeing giftedness as a diverse and multidimensional reality that deserves understanding, empathy, and educational responsiveness.
Together with SELF SCAN, SMART APP, MAPFINDER, and INFINITY LEARNING, DISCOVER completes the YBT ecosystem of digital tools developed under WP3. Each platform addresses a different dimension of gifted education—from awareness and identification to enrichment and teacher training—creating a comprehensive support framework for schools across Europe.
DISCOVER is now available online through the YBT platform and will continue to grow with new content, resources, and dissemination activities aimed at fostering more inclusive and informed learning communities.
Because gifted students do not need to be “fixed” or “standardised.”
They need to be understood.
