IDP @ the “EU Citizens’ Initiative Day 2015: Review, Renew, Reset!”

IDP European Consultants attended the event “European Citizens’ Initiative Day 2015: Review, Renew, Reset!” in Brussels, 13th of April. The European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) is an important instrument for direct democracy at European level because it gives European citizens the opportunity to directly take part in EU policy, calling on the European Commission to submit a legislative proposal. Organised by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), this year’s ECI Day focused on the conclusions of two reports from the European Commission. The first one presented an assessment on the first three years of ECI practice; the second one was prepared by European Ombudsman who carried out an own-initiative inquiry in order to receive feedback on how effectively the ECI procedure was working. The event was an important moment of networking, dialogue and exchange of information and experience among stakeholders about democratic participation of citizens in European political life. The conference brought together over 100 high level representatives from all over Europe, EU officials, members of the European Parliament, social and economic actors, activists, researchers, representatives of civil society organizations and other stakeholders.
